Our humble beginnings

True North Youth Ranch had its start as a basic Horse Club in Cortlandt Manor, New York in 2014.  These unique, experiential clubs began with a handful of volunteers and a few borrowed horses.  Our free horse clubs took off like the proverbial “wild fire” and we were (happily) completely in over our heads in a matter of weeks!  We always had a waiting list from the very beginning.  We completed three years of seasonal, 10-week sessions on Saturdays only.  Our teens were primarily from New York City and Westchester County.

After each club meeting we would stand covered in arena dust, but delighted by the enthusiasm of the children and the special antics of the horses we relied on.   We did experience many, wonderful teachable moments during these exciting clubs, but we came to a stark realization that the children and their families needed more intentional Christian counseling and further support.  It was an entirely exhausting commitment, but it was clear the God was doing something special.  Some experiences in life are very precious and you know it!  This was one of those occasions and we felt compelled to develop this outreach further.
